Community Housing for Adults with Disabilities

As a licensed care provider by the state of Missouri, L’Arche is proud to support St. Louis County with three community-oriented group homes for adults with disabilities (intellectual and developmental).

What does community housing for adults with disabilities look like?

Core Members and Assistants share day-to-day activities, including meals, chores, leisure, outings, and celebrations. Our care for each other is reflected in the appearance of our homes as well as daily life and routines. Weekly, monthly, and annual traditions are the heartbeat of our community.

Do you have vacancies in your homes?

No. At this time, we do not have capacity to welcome new Core Members. However, we are looking to expand our offerings. (Learn more on our campaign page: Everyone Belongs.) If you or someone you know is interested in group home living for adults with disabilities or other services, please fill out our Community Needs Survey.

What can I do in the meantime to obtain services?

  • Visit the Missouri Department of Mental Health website or contact the Office of Constituent Services (OCS) at 1-800-364-9687 to begin the application process. Most assisted housing for adults with disabilities is state regulated (including L’Arche St. Louis), therefore all individuals must proceed through these channels before joining one of our communities.

  • Contact our Family Support Coordinator, Kathie Grant (familysupport@larchestlouis.org; 314-395-5851) for more information or help navigating the application process.

  • Connect with our Core Members, Assistants, and staff at one of our monthly Community Night gatherings or seasonal events. Join our mailing list for updates!

How does spirituality influence life in your living communities?

Prayer and spiritual reflection are important parts of our daily rhythm, including our monthly Community Night. Occasions of welcome and saying goodbye are times for blessing and thanksgiving, and we share a tradition with other L’Arche communities of washing feet during Holy Week. Many members choose to attend church on the weekend, participate in a worship service, or sing in a choir. However, we respect and support everyone in deepening their spiritual lives as they choose. L’Arche communities welcome people of any faith or no faith background.
