St. Louis to Boston
Last week, our Quality Coordinator and three House Leaders had the opportunity to visit our friends in L’Arche Boston North. The L’Arche community in Boston is made up five homes where 23 Core Members share life with Assistants. They also run a Culinary Collaborative Program where participants make and sell hummus for customers around the city! Soon, they will also be expanding the culinary program into a local café. Our team got to visit and confirmed, “The culinary program makes some delicious food!”
Similar to our community in St. Louis and many L’Arche communities across the country, L’Arche Boston North is adapting to the changing needs of their aging house members. Our team went especially to learn more about the creative and thoughtful ways they are doing this. Quality Coordinator Julia said it was amazing to see how they are already supporting their aging Core Members. One of their homes is even specially designed to be a “home for life” despite changing physical challenges that we all face when aging. Our community members were able to get some ideas for our own new fully-accessible home that will open this summer, the cornerstone of the Everyone Belongs campaign.
Thank you L’Arche Boston North for welcoming our community members with open arms. House Leader Adien said, “It was amazing to connect with their community, which was made up of wonderful Core Members and Assistants. A lot of wisdom and joy was passed onto us during our visit.”
