Edward’s Interviews: Intern Sydney
Edward, resident of St. James and wearer of many hats at L’Arche St. Louis, has picked up the ongoing interviews with L’Arche St. Louis Community members, assistants, friends, and everyone who makes up our Community! Launching this new endeavor, Edward sat down with all of our Summer Interns to get to know them better. Check out his conversation with Sydney!
How do you like Joyful?
I really love it. I’m glad I got placed there. There are hard days sometimes, but in the end you will always love the Core Members; they make you smile.
Who is the House Leader over there? How do you like working with her?
Ellyse - she’s nice. She is always willing to jump in and help. I’ve always felt welcome there. Also, I’m taking an intermediate Spanish class in the fall - sometimes when we are doing dishes Julia will have conversations with me in Spanish.
Did you go to Branson with them?
I did! It was a lot of work trying to manage everyone going different places, but it was a lot of fun. Amy won 1000 tickets at the arcade! She got some pretty cool prizes and it was fun to see. Mary Ellen went to the Titanic Museum and when she came back she was telling us all about it and journaling about it - she had the time of her life. We all played Scattergories at night at the Airbnb.
Do you have any hobbies?
I like running a lot. I like music and making playlists. I’m learning how to play the guitar.
Any other hobbies?
I like to use my hands a lot. I can’t sit still for very long. I like hiking and camping. Over winter break I went backpacking in Catalina Island and it was really hard, but when we got to the top of the mountain it was worth it! I like photography, as well.
Are you right handed or left handed?
I’m right handed, but I’m working on ambidexterity.
What’s your favorite color?
I think blue. It’s changed over the years, but I think blue; there’s so many cool shades.
What kind of music do you like?
Indie, pop oldies, and starting to get into a little country, too - friends got me into it.
Have you every been to Washington DC?
I have, actually. Six or seven years ago my aunt and uncle took me. The first couple of days we hiked the Appalachian Trail, and the last few days we went to DC. It was snowing and we actually had a snowball fight at the National Mall! And we went to the International Spy Museum.
Have you been downtown?
I tried to go up the Arch a few months ago, but they were sold out. It’s on my bucket list to go up eventually.
Where are you going to school in the fall?
University of Alabama!
